Vegan Hot Pot, Reinvented
Ever since going vegetarian, I've pretty much stuck to traditional Chinese hot pot. I've even written a blog post to help you enjoy vegetarian options at your next Chinese hot pot or raclette dinner.
But ever since I got a Fondussimo for Christmas two years ago, there's been no going back. It's hands down the best way to enjoy hot pot as a vegetarian or vegan!
Say goodbye to traditional fondue forks and hello to cooking baskets! And the possibilities are endless.
So far, I've tried five different broths (you can find the recipes on Fondussimo's website), and here are some ideas of what to add to each one:
MISO
The perfect broth for putting together your own ramen-inspired hot pot.
Noodles (ramen, udon...)
Dumplings
Marinated tofu (pan-fried beforehand)
Medium-firm tofu
Broccoli
Mushrooms (button, portobello...)
ITALIAN 2.0
The ideal broth for creating your own personalized pasta dish.
Gnocchi
Fresh vegan pasta
Vegan sausages (pan-fried beforehand)
Artichokes
Olives
Broccoli
THAI
A flavourful broth for putting together a delicious bowl of noodles.
Marinated tofu (pan-fried beforehand)
TVP (textured vegetable protein)
Potatoes
Noodles (ramen, udon...)
Broccoli
Mushrooms (button, portobello, shiitake...)
Dumplings
> Toppings: crushed peanuts and fresh cilantro.
BBQ 2.0
A hot pot with a Mexican twist! Cook your fillings in the broth, then let everyone build their own tacos just the way they like them.
TVP (textured vegetable protein)
Mushrooms (shiitake, button...)
Corn
Bell peppers
> For the tacos:
Tortillas
Guacamole
Pickled onions and cabbage
Tomatoes
Cilantro
Mayo and taco seasoning
TONKINESE
A great option for pho lovers looking to put a hot pot spin on their favourite Vietnamese soup.
TVP (textured vegetable protein)
Medium-firm tofu
Dumplings
Noodles (ramen)
Mushrooms (button, enoki...)
Bok choy
Asparagus
Broccoli
Bean sprouts
Cilantro
I've only tried five of the broths so far because we always end up going back to our favourite: Thai! But I'm always up for recommendations. Share your favourites in the comments!
